Note: Nasogaluak’s Trapped Seal is a testament to human impact on the arctic environment and a plea for global understanding. Nasogaluak is one of many Inuit artists who are choosing to portray more difficult subject matter about the north rather than the usual lighthearted theme. Instead of a playful, dancing seal, Nasogaluak depicts one struggling to be free from a discarded oil can. The impact of southern industry and climate change are being felt by the north and artists have began to convey through their art the seriousness these effects are having on their land, culture and traditions.
