Literature: Robert Kardosh, The Art of Nick Sikkuark, Marion Scott Gallery, exh. cat., page 1; fig. 26, pages 18 & 78

Note: Kardosh calls Sikkuark one of the most imaginative sculptors who has created “some of the most original and inventive sculptures ever to come out of the Canadian North.” The Netsilik artist depicted the same subject - a happy one-legged man - in a 2003 drawing that exhibited with the Marion Scott Gallery. The caption for the drawing reads, “Although I only have one leg, I can move around very well, so I am smiling.” Kardosh comments, the “over-emphatic smile of the ‘one-legged man’ is unambiguously amusing.“ He notes that the cheerful attitude of the man “insists on [his] essential dignity.”
