Note: In the fall of 1940, David Milne moved to Uxbridge from Toronto. David Silcox writes: “New surroundings and new circumstances had often renewed Milne’s determination to paint and within a month or so the move to Uxbridge proved congenial. His work poured forth in watercolour, colour dry points and the occasional oil... For both quantity and quality it was a year with few equals.” This watercolour dates within a year of Milne’s move to Uxbridge. While inscribed “Coboconk” by Douglas Duncan, according to Silcox, a letter from Milne to Duncan in October 1942 confirms this picture was painted at Uxbridge.
